In Egyptian mythology, the Eye of Horus symbolizes the falcon god Horus, the sun and the sun god Ra, reason, masculinity and mathematics. Its design resembles a falcon. The left eye symbolizes the god Thoth, the moon, intuition and femininity.
The right and left eyes combine to represent the entire universe, similar to the symbol of Yin-Yang in Taoism. The Eye of Horus is said to have healing powers and was used as a protective amulet. Its proportions were also used to calculate the ingredients in medical treatments. In the United states, the Rx symbol in pharmacies, the Eye of Providence on currency and the Masonic eye are all derived from the Eye of Horus.
