As the wife of John Adams, Abigail Adams served as the wife of the U.S. Minister to Great Britain, the first Second Lady of the United States, as well as the second First Lady of the United States. She gave birth to five children, including son John Quincy Adams, who later served as the sixth president of the United States. Adams was politically active in her own right. She wrote letters to her husband and others requesting that they establish laws favorable to women.
