What is a factory outlet store?

A factory outlet store is a retail store that allows manufacturers to sell stock directly to the public. They often offer goods that are heavily discounted from regular retail price, but items may be damaged or otherwise unable to be sold in regular shops.

Factory outlets differ slightly from outlet stores. The former are run by manufacturers and contain items made by a single brand. Outlet stores are run by retailers and sell items from all different brands that were previously sold in their stores. Most outlet stores are dedicated to the sale of clothing, but some specialize in appliances or other luxury goods.
