Fall foliage begins in Virginia when the first leaves change color in September and ends when the last leaves fall in winter. Peak fall foliage typically begins on October 10 and ends on October 31.
In 2015, leaves began to change color in Virginia on September 24 and were at their peak color in eastern Virginia on November 16. Virginia leaves typically begin to change by September 19 and are past peak color by November 7. Leaves start to change earliest in the western part of the state and latest in the eastern part. The peak period for the western highlands is Oct. 10 to 20, for the central piedmont Oct. 15 to 25, and for the eastern coastal plain Oct. 20 to 31.
