How many children can a childminder look after?

A childminder in the United Kingdom may care for up to six children under the age of 8. Three of these children may be young children, who are those who have not reached the September first following their fifth birthday, and only one may be under the age of 1.
Childminders in the United Kingdom are adults licensed to care for other people's children in their own homes. Exceptions may be made to the regulations regarding the number of children if there are issues regarding continuity of care or sibling relationships. Childminders may also care for more than one baby if those babies are twins or if they are caring for their own babies.
