According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, a normal temperature for a healthy baby falls between 97.5 degrees F and 99.5 degrees F. Most pediatricians agree that a fever is a temperature higher than 100.4 degrees F.
Normal body temperature varies according to general health, activity level, time of day and other factors. Infants generally have higher temperatures than older children, and temperatures are always highest between late afternoon and early evening. If babies have a higher than normal temperature, they usually show symptoms such as sweating, or they feel warm to the touch. Additional symptoms of a fever include a rash or stomach upset.
