Florida is approximately 50 miles west of the closest islands in the Bahamas chain. Two islands, North Bimini and South Bimini, are located due east of Miami.
North Bimini and South Bimini are two of more than 700 islands, islets and coral cays located from along the South Florida shore to Cuba and the island of Hispaniola.
Other main islands in the Bahamas include Grand Bahama, home to the country's second largest city, Freeport, which is about 55 miles from Miami. Paradise has the Bahamas' largest city, Nassau. Located nearly 180 miles from southern Florida, Nassau also is the Bahamas' capital.
