Fasciitis of the foot is a medical condition that causes pain and inflammation along the band of tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes, according to Mayo Clinic. It is one of the most common causes of foot and heel pain.
Fasciitis of the foot, or plantar fasciitis, is characterized by a stabbing pain that usually occurs in the morning as a person takes his first steps, explains Mayo Clinic. As the foot becomes loose with walking, painful symptoms often decrease. However, symptoms tend to recur after standing for long periods of time or upon standing up after being seated. The ailment is common in runners, overweight individuals and people who wear shoes with poor support.
