How fast can an eagle fly?

Eagles fly 30 to 55 mph and dive at over 100 mph. Eagles can soar for hours on warm air currents, which conserves energy, especially during long migrations.

The normal size aerie, or group of baby eagles, is one to three, but about 50 percent die before reaching flight age. Eaglets grow rapidly, gaining about 1 pound a week in the first few months of life. Eaglets have downy feathers, which are replaced by juvenile feathers between 10 and 13 weeks after hatching, when they are ready to fly. In the wild, eagles live up to 20 years, but in captivity, they have been known to live for 50 years.
