The fastest street-legal cars available in the United States as of 2015 include the Hennessey Venom GT, the SSC Ultimate Aero and the Bugatti Veyron. All of these vehicles are capable of top speeds nearly five times the typical 55 mph speed limit on most American highways.

The Bugatti Veyron was not only the fastest street-legal car in America but in the entire world with a top speed of 268 mph until 2014, when the Hennessey Venom GT surpassed it. The Venom GT is based on a lightweight Lotus Exige chassis mated to a 1,200-horsepower engine and is capable of reaching speeds of 270 mph.
