Is there a fee for using a notary public?

There is generally a fee to use the services of a notary public. These fees are set, in part, by the notary. Each state dictates the maximum amount a notary may charge for services. As long as the fees fall within these guidelines the notary may decide what to charge.
A notary public may also perform additional duties that may incur separate charges aside from the standard notorial act. Many notaries discuss the charges with the client ahead of time so that there are no surprises, and provide an invoice afterward so that the client can see exactly what he is paying for.
