From birth to approximately 4 weeks of age, pit bull puppies should drink only their mother's milk or a nutritionally fortified puppy milk replacement formula. During and after weaning, a pit bull puppy can start to eat dry food.
If feeding orphaned pit bull puppies that are younger than 4 weeks old, dog owners should use a canine milk replacement for bottle feedings. For puppies who are already weaned, it is important for dog owners to start feeding the puppy the food that it will eat throughout the first year of life. If the puppy has recently been weaned, adding a small amount of warm water to moisten the food encourages it to try the new food.
