What are some felony classes?

Federal felonies include Classes A, B, C, D and E, with increasing maximum sentences based on the severity of the crimes committed. All felonies carry a maximum fine of $250,000.

The maximum sentences are life imprisonment or death as a Class A felony, 25 years or more as a Class B felony, less than 25 years but 10 or more years as a Class C felony, less than 10 years but five or more years as a Class D felony, and less than five years but more than one year as a Class E felony. To convict an individual of a Class A felony, the person must have committed two or more violent felonies, or one or more violent felonies and one or more drug offenses.
