What is a field technician?

A field technician is a repairman or troubleshooter who travels to a site to diagnose and repair equipment. Field technicians work with products that cannot be easily picked up and taken to another location for repair because of their size or their link to other systems.

Field technicians service equipment such as security systems installed in homes or businesses, communications and Internet networks, home appliances, pianos and pipe organs, computer equipment, television cable and satellite systems, and heating and cooling units. Industrial firms hire field technicians to work on heavy equipment such as bulldozers or excavators, farm tractors and harvesters, factory machinery and diesel engines.
