A square pyramid, a pyramid with four triangular sides and one square side, is a figure with five faces, eight edges and five vertices. It is a kind of three-dimensional solid. The pyramids at Giza, Egypt are examples of such a figure.

The sides of a three-dimensional solid are called its faces. Since a square pyramid has four triangular sides connected to the perimeter of the fifth square side, this solid is said to have five faces. Edges are places where two sides of a three-dimensional solid meet. Vertices are where three sides of a dimensional solid meet and are often called corners.
