On May 24, 1935, Major League Baseball hosted its first official night game, which was played between the Cincinnati Reds and the Philadelphia Phillies in Cincinnati. Crosley Field had recently been fitted with electric lights, making that the perfect venue for an MLB night game. The home team ended up winning 2-1.
Though this was the first MLB night game, it wasn't the first professional baseball night game to be held in the United States. That game was played on May 2, 1930 in Des Moines, Iowa. More than 12,000 people are reported to have attended this game, which was a massive attendance for that era.
