Where is the first quadrant drawn on a graph paper?

For a coordinate plane with both an x- and y-axis, the first quadrant is drawn in the upper right-hand corner of a piece of graph paper. The second quadrant is in the upper-left, above the third quadrant in the lower left-hand corner. The fourth quadrant is in the lower-right corner.

Coordinates in the first quadrant have positive values for both x and y, whereas points in the third quarter have negative values for both coordinates. In the second quadrant, the x-coordinate is negative, but the y-coordinate is positive. Conversely, the points in the fourth quadrant have a negative value for y but a positive value for x.
