In 1961, Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth's husband, became the first member of the British royal family to be interviewed on television. This wasn't the first time a member of the royal family appeared on television, but it was the first official televised royal interview.
The British royal family has a long history of embracing available technology in order to communicate with citizens. While Queen Elizabeth's 1953 coronation was the first to be broadcast on television, her father, George VI, had parts of his coronation's procession filmed for TV broadcast in 1937.
