Who started the first video chat room?

The first chat room was created by Doug Brown and David Wooley in 1973 at the University of Illinois. This was the first program that allowed several users to interact as a group.

Brown and Wooley named the prototype "Talkomatic." "Talkomatic" was able to deliver characters instantly without the need to wait for a complete line of text. Each participant appeared in a small, horizontal window of the computer screen, and all participants were able to type and send messages to each other at the same time. Each channel of "Talkomatic" was able to support no more than five participants at a time. A web-based version of "Talkomatic" was released by the scientists in 2014.
