Fish oil helps reduce cholesterol levels in the heart, according to WebMD. Additionally, omega-3 fatty acids help lower the frequency of plaque in the arteries and help get rid of inflammation throughout the body.
Apart from consuming the fish, omega-3 fatty acids can also be obtained from the supplements recommended by doctors and nutritionists, states WebMD. Fish that are rich in omega-3 include salmon, tuna, mackerel, trout, herring and sardines. These fish are mainly found in the cold fresh water. Studies show that fish oil can reduce chances of heart problems resulting from cholesterol accumulation by up to 30 percent.
