Each point on the five-pointed star used by the Bloods street gang stand for one of the five Bloods principles, which include love, peace, truth, freedom and justice. The star is often depicted with a numeral "5" in its center.
According to the Gang Library archived by the University of Maryland, graffiti in the shape of a five-pointed star with the word "blood" spelled out in all capital letters with one letter at the tip of each point of the star is a mark of Bloods territory. The bloods also use the numeral "5" presented in a variety of artistic styles in graffiti and tattoos. Other Bloods identifiers include red clothing and red-beaded necklaces.
