Where does flax grow?

Canada, China and Russia are among the top flax-producing countries in the world. In the United States, flax is grown mainly in North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana and Minnesota. Flax grows in cooler climates where there are long stretches of daylight.

Flax is grown for its seeds and for its fibers. Flax fibers come from the stem of the plant and are much stronger than cotton. Flaxseed is nutrient-rich and may help fight diseases such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes. It is usually consumed ground instead of whole. Flaxseed oil has industrial uses and is also made for human consumption.
