According to American Dental Association, children 8 years old and younger are at risk of developing dental fluorisis if too much fluoride is ingested. Dental fluorisis is a condition that causes white spots that eventually turn brown in unerupted and developing teeth.
Fluoride is a mineral derived from the element fluorine that can be found throughout nature in all existing bodies of water, as well as in the earth's crust. Fluoride has properties that make it effective in preventing tooth decay. It does so by strengthening the structure of the tooth, while remineralizing areas that are already subject to decay. Proper fluoride use is proven to make teeth more resistant to decay.
