Is a cherry a berry?
By Forinfos - 21/12/2025 - 0 comments
The cherry is not a berry. Cherries are drupes, or stone fruit. A drupe is any fruit that contains a center stone with a hard shell and a seed inside. Other drupes include peaches, mangos and plums. Berries, however, are fruit that have no hard core and are fully edible.
Two main types of cherries are found in the United States: sweet cherries, which are primarily grown in Washington, California and Oregon, and sour cherries, which are primarily grown in Michigan. The United States is the third largest producer of cherries in the world, after Turkey and the European Union.
