What is the color of espresso?

A well-made cup of espresso is a dark hazelnut color with hints of ginger. Espresso is a method of preparing coffee that is often referred to as an espresso shot.

To produce espresso, ground coffee is filled into a portafilter, and then water is forced through the coffee grounds. This mixture is removed in concentrated quantities to produce a bold flavor. If this process is not done well, the espresso may turn out under-extracted or over-extracted. This can be fixed by checking the coffee ground size and speed of extraction.

Many types of espresso are served, including single shot, double shot, lungo and ristretto. Proper espresso is commonly served in demitasse-style cups.
