The difference between coffee and latte is that coffee is ground coffee beans run through a filter with water, and a latte is made with unfiltered coffee and warm or steamed milk. Unfiltered, concentrated coffee is commonly known as espresso.
Espresso began in the 1900s in Italy. It is typically served in a small cup similar in size to a shotglass. It is very bitter and most people sweeten it to improve the taste
Lattes also originated in Italy and the words "caffe latte" mean 'coffee with milk.' Shortened to latte, this beverage has become enormously popular in the United States. Most lattes resemble a cup of foamy, cream-colored milk.
