Melons may be grown in any region that provides warm weather, high sun and adequate water. Melons are primarily grown in Latin American countries. Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Costa Rica are the largest suppliers of melons. The United States, Canada and China round out the top worldwide producers of melons.
The United States is a net importer of many melon varieties. Most melons grown in the United States come from California, Texas and Arizona, though there are other states that produce melon crops. Although melons were once considered a seasonal produce, due to international cultivation they are now available year-round.
