According to Mayo Clinic, those wishing to prevent a gout attack should eat a diet comprised mostly of whole grains, vegetables, fruit and plenty of fluids. They can also include skim or low-fat milk and 4 to 6 ounces of lean meat, poultry or fish per day.
Fluid intake is an important part of preventing gout attacks, states Mayo Clinic. Experts recommend from 8 to 16 glasses of fluids, particularly water per day. A single glass of fluid equals 8 ounces. Some evidence suggests that men can include coffee in their diets to lower the risk of gout. A healthy diet to prevent gout can also include low-fat salad dressing and low-fat sour cream.
