Chemistry Dictionary lists the formula mass of (NH4)2SO4 as 132.14. Commonly referred to as ammonium sulfate, diammonium sulfate, sulfuric acid with a diammonium salt, dolamin and mascagnite, it has a structural formula of H8N2O4S.
Ammonium sulfate is a white, odorless solid that has a melting point between 336 and 339 degrees Celsius. Its sublimation point is at 355 degrees Celsius, and its density is 1.78 g/cm3.
Ammonium sulfate is used in the manufacturing of galvanized iron and hydrogen sulfide, freezing mixtures, fractionation of proteins, and flame-proofing paper and fabric. Ammonium sulfate fumes are toxic, and Chemistry Dictionary recommends full-body protection.
