What is a fraction of a rupee called?

The Indian rupee is divided into 100 paise. However, only 50-paise coins are still considered legal tender in India as of July 2014. The 25-paise coin, also known as the chaar anna, was phased out in 2011. Many consumers and stores refuse to accept 50-paise coins.
India switched to the decimal system for its coins in 1957, shortly after gaining independence from the United Kingdom. At that time, coins worth fractions of 1 rupee were issued in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 25 and 50 paise. The fractional paise coins were removed from the market beginning in 2005 because they were worth less than the metal used to mint them.
