The Framingham risk calculator is a tool available online that people can use to calculate their risk of having a heart attack in the next 10 years, according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. This calculator is based on the results of the Framingham Heart Study.

The Framingham risk calculator is designed for people 20 years and older who do not currently have diabetes or heart disease, explains the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. Its calculations are based on age, gender, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, smoking status and systolic blood pressure. This tool also asks if people are taking any medications to treat high blood pressure.
