What is a French pug?

The French pug is a breed of dog resulting from a cross between a French bulldog and a pug, according to Dog Breed Info Center. The dog is not a purebred and is an example of what is known as a designer dog.

Designer dogs are often given portmanteau names stemming from those of the parent breeds. Not every type of designer dog is 50 percent purebred. In addition, the Dog Breed Info Center reports that some breeding associations such as the American Kennel Club and the Canadian Kennel Club do not recognize designer dogs such as French pugs as official dog breeds.
