What is the frequency of shots required for pneumonia vaccination?

For infants, the pneumococcal vaccine is a series of four doses made up of two different vaccines, including PCV13 and PPSV23, according to Vaccines.gov. Infants should receive the vaccine at 2, 4, 6 and 12 through 15 months of age. Adult and children’s doses differ slightly.

For people between the ages of 6 and 64 who have certain conditions, such as kidney failure, kidney disease, HIV and leukemia, one dose of PCV13 vaccine followed by one dose of PPSV23 is the recommendation, notes Vaccines.gov. Experts recommend previously unvaccinated adults age 65 and older to receive one dose of PCV13 followed by a dose of PPSV23 six months to one year later.
