WebMD notes that the pneumococcal vaccinations for adults are only indicated for a select population of adults and a repeated dose of the vaccine is recommended for even fewer adults. In the case that more than one dose of each vaccine is indicated, the time between doses is five years.

WebMD also notes that there are two types of pneumococcal vaccines, PCV13 and PPSV23. Doctors recommend people over age 65 should have both immunizations. If the PPSV23 is given first, one year should pass between doses. If the PCV 13 is given first, only eight weeks have to pass between doses.
