Who should receive the pneumococcal 13 conjugate vaccine?

Children under five years-old, adults 65 years of age or older and persons at least six years-old exhibiting risk factors are advised to receive the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine -known as PCV13- states the CDC. The vaccine protects against a bacterial infection known as 'pneumococcal disease.-

Children from six to 18 years of age with sickle cell disease, HIV or other immuno-compromising conditions, cochlear implant or cerebrospinal fluid leaks should receive a dose of PCV13, recommends the CDC. Adults aged 19 years or older with any of the conditions listed above, as well as chronic renal failure, leukemia, nephrotic syndrome or multiple myeloma should also receive the vaccine, advises the CDC.
