How often should the pneumococcal vaccine be administered?

Revaccination of the PPSV23 pneumococcal vaccine is recommended five years after the first dose for individuals who exhibit a high risk of pneumococcal infection or antibody decrease, states the Immunization Action Coalition. Additionally, adults over 65 who received their first dose before 65 should be revaccinated.

A second dose of PPSV23 is recommended for individuals between 19 and 64 years old who have chronic renal failure, nephrotic syndrome and functional or anatomic asplenia, according to the Immunization Action Coalition.
