The four front teeth are called incisors. They form a total of eight teeth on both the upper and the lower jaw.
The two incisors found at the center of the mouth both on the top and the bottom jaws are usually referred to as central incisors. The other two on each side of the central incisors are called lateral incisors. Incisors are usually broad with narrow edges, and they are necessary for cutting food. They usually have one root, and their crowns are arched. Four canines border the incisors. Young children usually have zero to eight incisors depending on the phase of their tooth development.
