The full name of the chemical formula Pb3(PO4)2 is lead (II) phosphate. Other names include lead othorphosphate, trilead phosphate and lead (2+) phosphate. It is a white powder that is prepared by reacting lead (II) acetate with sodium orthophosphate.
Lead (II) phosphate is insoluble in water and alcohol, but it is soluble in alkalis and acids such as nitric acid. It is a carcinogen, or cancer-causing agent. Lead (II) phosphate is used as a styrene and plastic stabilizer as well as in special glasses.
Lead (II) phosphate can be toxic to humans. Lead poisoning can cause headaches, muscle and joint cramps, upset stomach and poor appetite.
