The full retirement age is the age at which people are eligible to enjoy their full Social Security benefits. As of 2013, the full retirement age was 66 years. The full retirement age of a person can be between 62 and 70 years, depending on the year a person was born.
People can retire early and choose not to start their benefits. However, if people do opt to start their benefits, they will receive a reduction in the percentage of their monthly benefits until the full retirement age. People also have the option of locking off their benefits past the full retirement age.
