The books written by Nicholas Sparks are considered to be in the genre of romance fiction. However, the author considers his work to be love stories.

As of 2015, Sparks has published 17 fiction books. Some of his popular titles include "Message in a Bottle," "The Notebook," "Safe Haven" and "Dear John." Sparks attended Notre Dame where he majored in business. The author's first book was published in 1990 and sold 50,000 copies.

Nine Sparks books have been made into movies, and he also works as a screenwriter. He is recently separated from his wife and the couple has three sons.
