Who is Geoffrey the Giraffe?

Geoffrey the Giraffe is the animal icon for the Toys"R"Us chain of toy stores. He was introduced in print advertisements for the predecessor to the chain, Children's Bargaintown, in the 1950s. His original name was Dr. G. Raffe.

For most of his life, Geoffrey the Giraffe has been an animated figure. He got regular redesigns over the years and transformed from a more angular figure in the 1960s to an icon with rounded, cute features that made him look like a kid by the 1990s. From 2001 to 2007, he was a realistic giraffe voiced by Jim Hanks. As of 2007's redesign, Geoffrey features a colorful and cartoony look.
