What is the area of Asia?

The Asian continent is spread over approximately 2.8 billion hectares area of land. Covering about 22 percent of the global land area, Asia contains some of the most diverse selection of climates, ranging from tropical forests to temperate desert lands.

Asia is popularly divided into several sub-regions according to environment and population. The largest sub-region of Asia is the North Asian subcontinent, containing the country of China. The high levels of growth in the North Asia region, due to the presence of global superpowers China and Japan, cause it to have the highest gross domestic product out of the Asian subcontinents. On the other hand, South Asia is the most densely populated.
