What eats the Asiatic lion?

Adult Asiatic lions are apex predators and have no natural enemies. The 300 surviving lions in the Gir Forest of India are threatened by poaching, lack of suitable habitat and disease.

Asiatic lions once ranged from Greece in the west to the Indian state of Bengal in the east. The remaining wild population descends from just 12 individuals, but it has outgrown the available territory in the Gir Forest, leading to conflicts with neighboring human populations. The Indian government is taking steps toward establishing a second sanctuary for the lions in the Palpur-Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
