What continent is Georgia on?

The Republic of Georgia, although almost completely located in southwest Asia, considers itself to be part of Europe. The country is part of the Middle East.

Georgia is bordered by the Black Sea to the west, Russia to the north, Turkey to the south, and Armenia and Azerbaijan to the east. The country's capital is Tbilisi, and as of July 2014, its population was 4,935,880. In the 19th century, Georgia was part of the Russian empire. It was, however, independent for three years following the Bolshevik revolution in Russia. It was forced to join the Soviet Union in 1921. Georgia gained its independence in 1991, following the Soviet Union's collapse. It ratified its first constitution in 1995.
