On which continent is Iraq?

Iraq is on the continent of Asia. The country is located in the region known as the Middle East, which is in the western part of Asia.

Iraq borders several countries, including Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Turkey. It also has a 36-mile coastline on the Persian Gulf. Though mostly desert, Iraq has fertile plains near the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers and marshes near the coastline. The northeastern part of the country is home to the Zagros Mountains. Iraq was home to one of the oldest civilizations in Asia, the Sumerians, who lived in the fifth millennium B.C.
