What is the Eye of the Sahara?

Also known as the Richat Structure, the Eye of the Sahara is a natural landform that forms a circular shape that looks like a crude drawing of a human eye. The main form of the structure is a dome that is about 40 kilometers (1094 yards) in diameter.

This "eye" is an ancient natural landform that may be approximately 100 million years old. According to NASA, the Eye of the Sahara was originally thought to be a "meteorite impact structure,' though scientists now believe the structure's appearance is largely due to a type of erosion.
