Where is Guam located?

Guam is located in the western region of the Pacific Ocean, nearly 3,300 miles west of Hawaii. This island is an unincorporated territory of the United States that acquired its independence in 1944 after the Americans defeated the Japanese in the Battle of Guam.

Guam is also an island that belongs to the Mariana island chain. It has an area of 209 square miles and is the biggest of this chain. Guam's population is over 170,000. Its capital city is Hagatna, which is also the government seat.

In 1898, the Spanish surrendered this island to the United States after losing the Spanish-American War. In 1941, Japanese forces took over and occupied Guam until 1944.
