Where is Kathmandu?

Kathmandu is located in the center of Nepal and is considered one of the gateway cities to the Himalayan mountains. The city is located within the Kathmandu Valley and is flanked by the four mountains of Phulchoki, Nagarjun, Shivapuri and Chandragiri.

The city serves as the capital of Nepal and is the only city in the country to be granted a Metropolitan City administrative status. According to a census in 2011, the metropolitan area of Kathmandhu had a population of approximately 2.5 million people. The economy of the city is geared heavily towards tourism, and from 1995 to 1996, tourism accounted for nearly 3.8 percent of Nepal's gross domestic product.
