Pennsylvania State University is a public university located almost entirely in the borough of State College, Pa. University Park is the postal address used by the school.
Penn State uses the University Park postal address because a portion of the campus also sits within College Township. State College is located entirely within Centre County, which lies near the center of the state. State College is a home rule municipality. The entire area has earned the nickname "Happy Valley" to designate the Penn State campus and surrounding area as a whole. The University Park campus is the largest in the entire Penn State system.
