Rio de Janeiro is the second most populated metropolitan area in Brazil and has the sixth highest population when compared to other metropolitan areas in the Americas. The city is situated on the far western section of Brazil's Atlantic coast. It was established on the Guanabara Bay, with the center of Rio being located on the plains of the western shore line. The city of Rio is one of the world's most popular tourist destinations.
